Forged: No, It’s Not a Calligraphy Set

This week I have the great privilege to reveal to you more about Forged. Forged is our latest upcoming crowdfunded project launching very soon.

For those of you who are part of our Patreon - Broken Anvil Monthly -  you may be familiar with the characters in the artwork. Indeed, they are all from our Patreon in the form of miniature STLs from previously released months. What we at BAM realized, however, is that not all mini lovers have made that leap into 3d-printing. If you fit that description, Forged aims to offer you a TON of BAM’s signature miniatures at a respectable cost. These miniatures will be PVC-Injection molded and pre-assembled (no glue-fingers for you!) at a production facility that we maintain a long standing working relationship with overseas. The project features a single tier release that includes 101 models at the start with a slew of stretch goals that, if attained, could potentially increase the bundle to a whopping 212 models. This is a great opportunity for folks who are fans of our product but don’t have the means to print them at home, or for DMs looking to attain a plethora of models at an exceptional value.

I can confirm that all of the models in the artwork above are included in the base tier and run the gamut from our tiny Meowzah and Deep Gnome models to our large and terrifying Eregard, The Ice Scorn.

Lastly, for those of you who took part in the Rivenstone Kickstarter, I want to reassure you that because Forged will be manufactured off-site, it will not delay the production timeline of Rivenstone at HQ in any way. Speaking of products made outside of HQ, maybe I can even convince the team to make some new T-shirts with the logo on them too…

A Growler for Prowler

Here at BAM, we don’t just come up with new miniatures and designs, sometimes we come up with entirely new games. Having heard about Prowl recently myself, I just had to learn more! Our resident Lead Game Designer Will Hungerford has obliged:

The Release of Prowl is Sneaking Up on Us

On the most recent Broken Anvil livestream, we briefly mentioned that we have a new game in the works in addition to the upcoming release of Rivenstone. This game is called Prowl, and today we want to let you know a few important things about what Prowl is, and why you should be excited about it.

Prowl is a casual card game for two to four players. In it, you take on the role of a burglar who is breaking into a vast mansion that you must explore (and loot) while avoiding the various security alarms found throughout the house. Of course, you aren’t alone; the other players are also burglarizing the house, seeking the same loot you are. It’s your job to rob the place blind, stay out of sight, and do what you can to get the other players caught by security.

Prowl uses three types of cards: House, Alarm, and Burglar. House cards are shuffled before the game starts, then placed facedown in a 4x4 grid to create the mansion. These cards act as a map that your game pieces (which represent your burglar) move around. You can “open a door” by flipping a House card over if your burglar is standing on it to see what’s inside the room, and possibly loot it of all its goodies.

Alarm cards pop up throughout the game, typically due to what is inside a House card, or by failed attempts to loot a room. These cards indicate which rows or columns on the grid are now under the watchful eye of the house’s security surveillance. There are ways to avoid being caught by these alarms, but if you are caught, your burglar has to drop half of their loot and leave the mansion before returning to the game on the following round.

Finally, Burglar cards allow the players to do all sorts of fun and mischievous tricks, such as shoving another burglar in front of an alarm, turning alarms off, or making a mad dash across the mansion (which will definitely set off some new alarms).

The action in Prowl is fast and simple to resolve. Players take turns wherein they either move their burglar a space on the mansion grid, open a door to see inside, or play a card to mess with their opponents. At the end of each round if there are too many alarms going off in the house, if the house has been completely robbed blind, or if all of the burglars are caught at the same time, then the game ends. When the game’s over, the player(s) with the most loot wins, and everyone else loses.

In the coming weeks, we’ll show off more Prowl, including gameplay demos, and really digging into how the game plays. What’s really exciting is … the game is very close to being completely finished. All of the rules of the game are fully designed and developed. At this point the team is finishing up the art for the various cards, and after we receive a few samples of the cards and tokens, we’ll be releasing Prowl to all of you!

Unlike Rivenstone, Prowl will not be crowdfunded, so expect it to be released directly to retail sooner than you might think. Until next time, enjoy a sneak peak at some of the art that will appear on cards in Prowl.

Here’s a look at some of the art appearing on the House cards:

And here’s what you’ll find on some of the Burglar cards:

Thanks, Will! Can’t wait to play it. This game has really looted my heart. You can look forward to this game hopefully as early as Q1 of 2023.

Last Call

Well, I hope you enjoyed a look into these upcoming projects. I’ll top you off here with a few updates on production and whatnot:

The last remnants of Dungeon Delvers are being processed this week. It’s been a long road, but I know that the BAM team has learned quite a lot from the process and as such both Rivenstone and Forged will be much faster turnarounds.

“The Will”, our Artist Series piece in support of humanitarian aid for Ukraine, is in the engineering phase. This means that our engineering team is working hard to make sure that the Master produced for the SiOCAST molds is of the highest quality. So expect those to be produced fairly soon.

As a reminder to our current Patreon merchants, this is the final night for you to turn in your Broken Anvil Monthly Merchant Licensing Agreement packet. If you plan to continue on as a merchant please send those to admin@brokenanvilminis.com before August 31st at 10 pm PDT

Paint Fight 2 submissions are also due tonight. If you haven’t already, please send them to paintfight@brokenanvilminis.com, and feel free to follow up with me on Discord if you’d like to make sure they have been received.

To celebrate Labor Day, we’ll also be offering a 20% discount* on our webstore now through Sept 6 (ends 11:59PM PDT) using the code LABORDAY20 as well as free shipping* on domestic orders over $45. *excludes Artist Series offerings*

That’s a wrap for tonight folks! Thanks for reading and hope to see you next week in the BAR!
